Never knew this board existed... =) First of all... "love" in Tennis ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are two explanations for the term "love" used to signify a score of zero in the game of Tennis. The first is that it originates from the French term "l'oeuf" (forgot what it means) *shrug*. Another explanation is that to do something for love is to do something for nothing (zero). I think I like the latter explanation. sarang vs. love ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ While "love" is preferred over "like" to express one's stronger likings(yearning) for something (eg. I love spam! I love to ***), Korean language reserved the word "jo-wa-hae" for those occasions. I think the word "sarang" is only used from one person to another and never on something inanimate (not even on animals... though I could be mistaking). So the intensity of the two words become quite different, and I think that's what separates "sarang" from "love". It is a much cherished word (perhaps as much a chastity is... yaiks, hope I'm not getting myself into trouble here). Welp.... just my thoughts.. I don't think I said anything NEW actually. Mr. Just pretty much said everything I think. =) S.K.k. |
