Hwang and Yoon First of all, sorry to write in English. I read the posting of anonymous board about a report from Donga Ilbo about Dr. Hwang Chang Gyu, president of Samsung Electronics. What bothers me from the report is that to my knowledge, he did not graduate from MIT, but from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. (Please correct me, if I am wrong.) Similar report was also the case with Chosun Ilbo, couple of days ago. Though this mistake is often made to others as well, I wonder why reporters (responsible to tell the truth) as well as Dr. Hwang himself do not try to correct. My guess is that if somebody quoted him as graduate of a very much unknown college, he would immediately correct it. If this were an untrue representation, as I claim, this is common with a Chosun Ilbo column that is undeservingly written by Dr. Songyee Yoon about futuristic digital technology. She had reportedly graduated as the top from KAIST. In truth, (also, please correct me, if I am wrong.) she might have been one of the best students, but not the best one. These are very minor errors that I point out. Still, when reported, there is responsibility for reporters to check the truth. I wouldn't imagine those are intentionally fabricated by the two Drs., though they don't try to correct themselves. |
