The original unfinished edition was written by Jui-Yuan Fred Hsu, whom I have tried to contact, with no response (Fred, if you're around send me an E-mail !). I therefore decided to reorganise it, update all the rankings, etc and then add a lot of new topics that have appeared on the newsgroup. Acknowledgements of 1st Edition ------------------------------- This FAQ has been made available through the effort of numerous people. Among them, I would like to thank Mr Hardy Leung, who has provided a great of information on the subject matter. Whenever possible, quoted articles in this FAQ include names of original authors and sources. Note that I obtain these informations mainly from past postings, thus the references may not be accurate. I apologize for any errors made. Acknowledgements to Further Editions ------------------------------------ I would like to thank Nainish Bapna for permitting me to include his FAQ on grad schools who in addition to the usual way of applying by snail mail, receive applications and provide information by E-mail. If you notice that your school is not included, whereas a GRAD E-mail address exists, then please send this extra bit of info to him at the address included. I am also grateful to Owen Davis for giving me permission to include parts of documents from the Princeton Review www server. In addition, I am very grateful to Chris Parks, (an Admissions Specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who has provided me with invaluable advice and suggestions. He has also made some very valuable contributions to this FAQ and where necessary, reference to this has been made. Finally I am most grateful to all those who have made contributions to this FAQ, and have added in or modified information. INTRODUCTION TO SOC.COLLEGE.GRAD/GRADINFO -------------------------------------------- Both soc.college.grad and soc.college.gradinfo are unmoderated newsgroups (hereafter called .grad and .gradinfo respectively). The original intent was to make .grad a place for grad-related discussions, and .gradinfo a place to post brochure-type articles. However, this distinction has not been observed in the past; many people crossposted articles to both groups. It has been suggested that people add the word "INFO:" to their subject lines when they are posting informational articles in .grad or University brochures. Articles submitted to the groups should follow USENET unofficial guidelines (i.e. thou shalt not write more than 70 characters per line, thou shalt trim off as much quoted messages as possible, etc.) Please refer to news.newusers.questions and news.answers. ==================================================================== 2.
