[ studyingabroad ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): guest (방문객) 날 짜 (Date): 1994년10월19일(수) 19시21분33초 KST 제 목(Title): the TSE 계속 5 Many people make tense mismatch errors between the two verbs in the sentences. Some use wrong pronouns. Do not have long pauses in the middle of a sentence. You are saying only one sentence, so if you have two, three pauses, it's not good for comprehension. Be confident! Remember what I said. You are talking to a child!) In the next section, which is probably the second most difficult sectin for most Korean students, you will see about six or eight (I'm not sure) small pictures that depicts certain continuous events. Your task it to make up a story onthe basis of the pictures. You will asked to begin your story with "One day last week (or last month)". In other words, you have to tell your story as if it had happened in the past, which means you need to use verbs in the past tense. Story-making is not difficult because it is quite obvious what the story is. The story does not have to interesting. You only need to describe what happened. There are a couple of strategies you can use. One is using the pronoun "I" in the story. That is, you tell the story as if it hasd happened to you. This solves instantly the problem of using wrong pronouns (e.g. he, she, they, etc.). The other is to use direct speech rather than reported speech (e.g. He said, "I want to drink coffee", rather than He said he wanted to drink coffee.) This way you can reduce the chances of making verb tense errors. It is this section that imagining that you are speaking to a child is the most important. Don't get nervous. Make the story simple and easy. |
