Although the majority of graduate programs do not make such a requirement, the fact that some programs do might be an indication that other programs might move in that direction in the future. So it seems very important for those who are planning to cometo the US to study to learn more about the TSE and, if necessary, to try to improve their dral skills (speaking and listening). One thing I;'d like to add here is that if you are not confident about taking the TSE in Korea and if the graduate program you are applyingto does not ask you to submit your TSE score, it is better not to take it in Korea. Once you get addmitted and come to the university you applied, you will meet many Korean students who have taken the TSE or a similar test(whetehr they wanted or not), and they will give you a lot of helpful advice and comments. One more thing I'd like to emphasize is that the students in Korea have more than enough study aids for improving their English. the best thing you have is the AFKN. You can watch it for free. If you come to tthe US, you will do the same thing: watching TV. Why not start earlier? Of course, it is boring when you do not understand most0f it. But you will have to go through that stage anyway whether you are in Korea or the US. If the AFKN is not available, then use other aids or find opportunities (continued) |
