전체 내용이나 다른 안내를 보시려면, 다음 Web page를 참조 하시길... http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/org/ksap/pghguide/legal.html or http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/org/ksap/ --> 생활정보 --> 법률 (영사관, Visa) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- A) WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO MAINTAIN LEGAL STATUS i) KEEP YOUR PASSPORT VALID AT ALL TIMES. ii) KEEP YOUR CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY (I-20 OR IAP-66) VALID AT ALL TIMES. iii) BE REGISTERED FULL-TIME FOR CLASSES iv) COMPLETE NECESSARY IMMIGRATION TRANSFER PROCEDURES when changing from one school to another without leaving the US. v) DO NOT WORK OFF CAMPUS WITHOUR PRIOR AUTHORIZATION FROM THE FOREIGN STUDENT ADVISOR OR VIOLATE YOUR STATUS IN ANY OTHER WAY BY ENGAGING IN ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE PROHIBITED UNDER THE TERMS OF YOUR VISA. B) HOW LONG YOU CAN REMAIN IN THE US Remember that once you have completed your studies (completed = finishing the last requirement for the degree, NOT graduation. 박사과정이면 defence: 옮긴이 주), you only have a limited time to remain legally in the US. The restrictions are as follows: F-1 students have 60 days and J1 students have 30 days after completing their studies to do one of the following 4 things: 1) depart the US 2) apply for practical or academic training 3) apply for another immigration status 4) receive a new I-20 OR IAP-66 for a new program beginning in the next possible semester (from CMU or another university) EVEN IF YOUR I-20/IAP-66 AND VISA HAVE NOT EXPIRED, YOU STILL ONLY HAVE 60 DAYS FOR F-1 OR 30 DAYS FOR J-1 FROM THE DATE YOU COMPLETE YOUR PROGRAM TO PURSUE ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS, OTHERWISE YOUR STAY IN THE US IS UNLAWFUL! C) VISAS (VALIDITY & EXPIRATION) It is best to think of your US visa (the stamp or sticker on a page of your passport) as a key which permits you to enter the US. In other words, the visa is merely an entry permit. It does not say anything about how long you are permitted to remain in the US, it only provides you a window of time through which you have permission TO ENTER the US provided you have all of the other documentation necessary to hold student immigration status, that you are continuously enrolled as a full-time student, and that you otherwise comply with the requirements for maintaining status outlined above. THIS MEANS THAT YOUR VISA MAY EXPIRE WHILE YOU ARE IN THE US. YOU DO NOT NEED TO NOR CAN YOU HAVE IT RENEWED UNTIL YOU LEAVE THE US AND WANT TO REENTER. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO GET A NEW US STUDENT VISA IN THE US. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 한솔 아빠 |
