The prospective applicant should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: machining process modeling, finite element modeling, machine-tool structures and dynamic response analysis, machining process monitoring and machine-tool systems diagnostics, or tooling and fixturing. Candidate with strong analytical and experimental background will be preferred. The job functions include assisting in the technology integration efforts of the NSF/ARPA Machine Tool Agile Manufacturing Research Institute (MT-AMRI) at the UIUC and NSF I/UCRC for Machine Tool Systems, conducting research in the areas of machining process modeling, agile fixturing, machine tool structures & dynamics, and machine tool monitoring & diagnostics, preparing research proposals and technical publications, advising graduate students in their research and participation in team teaching of manufacturing courses. The research projects are funded by MT-AMRI, the University of Illinois NSF I/UCRC for Machine Tool Systems, and co-sponsored by industry.
