| [ military ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): Raptor (오공) 날 짜 (Date): 2003년 1월 17일 금요일 오후 01시 17분 18초 제 목(Title): 파월 한국군에 대한 미군의 평가서 미육군이 출간한 Allied Participation in Vietnam(동맹국의 베트남 참전)의 전문을 인터넷으로 찾았는데 미군시각에서 본 국군참전 전반에 대한 가장 객관적이고 상세하고 설득력있는 영문자료더군요. 국군이 구라가 아니고 실제로 전투기록 하나는 대단했나 봅니다. 좀 티나는 지역에서 주요 임무를 맡고 싶어했고 생각외로 오랜기간 많은 작전을 수행했고 작전지역도 상당히 넓었더군요. 정말 모르던 많은 것을 알게 됐습니다. 요즘 월남전 자료 많이 읽고 남북전력비교분석도 많이 하게 되네요. 미군사령관의 불평은 주로 한국군의 미군전력지원요청은 반으로 줄여도 무방할 정도로 항상 과다했다는 것이고 합동작전하기가 힘들었다는 것 능력에 걸맞는 좀더 많은 역할을 맏아주길 원했던 것 같은데, 제 입장에서 보면 오히려 (이전 생각과 달리) 사상자를 최소화 하려던 한국군 사령부의 배려가 돋보이네요. The enemy feared the Koreans both for their tactical innovations and for the soldiers' tenacity. It is of more than passing interest to note that there never was an American unit in Vietnam which was able to "smell out" small arms like the Koreans. The Koreans might not suffer many casualties, might not get too many of the enemy on an operation, but when they brought in seventy-five or a hundred weapons, the Americans wondered where in the world they got them. They appeared to have a natural nose for picking up enemy weapons that were, as far as the enemy thought, securely cached away. General Peers, who succeeded General Rosson, stated that it took some learning and understanding but that he found the Koreans highly efficient and a distinct pleasure to work with. General Creighton Abrams has indicated that from a purely professional point of view the Koreans probably outperformed all of our allied forces in South Vietnam. In response to a question from Vice President Spiro T. [The] Vietnamese, to a degree, realize this and do it. The Koreans, on the other hand, play one instrument- the bass drum."
