The Doppler effect is the change in observed frequency of an oscillator (in this case, Io orbiting around Jupiter) when the observer (in this case, on Earth's surface) is moving: the frequency is higher when the observer is moving towards the oscillator and lower when the observer is moving away from the oscillator. This apparently anachronistic analysis implies that Rømer was measuring the ratio c/v, where c is the speed of light and v is the Earth's orbital velocity (strictly, the component of the Earth's orbital velocity parallel to the Earth- Jupiter vector), and indicates that the major inaccuracy of Rømer's calculations was his poor knowledge of the orbit of Jupiter. 위 wiki 글은 부정하지만, 뢰머가 도플러 효과를 관측한 것이 맞는 것 같은데요? wiki 글은 뢰머가 빛에 대한 도플러 효과내지 광행차를 발견하지 않았다고 하는 것 같은데(이 부분 이해가 잘 안 감 -_-;)... 물론 그건 아니겠지만, 대신 뢰머는 목성 위성 이오의 (식현상에 의한) 깜빡임에 대해 도플러 효과를 관측한 것으로 봐야 할텐데요. 도플러 효과는 전자기파나 음파 같은 것에만 적용되는 것인가 해서 그 동안 위 wiki 글을 반대 못했었는데, 아래 도플러 효과에 대한 wiki 글을 보니까 그건 아닌 듯 하고요. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppler_effect 잘 아는 분야도 아니구만 wiki 글을 부정하려니까 자신감이 약간 떨어진 상태인데 -_-;;; 암튼, 그렇다고 해도 뢰머가 도플러 효과의 발견자가 될 수는 없을 겁니다. 관측했더라도 자기가 관측한 것이 뭔지 모르고 넘어가면 발견자로 인정 받지 못하는 것이 '일반적'이니까요. 예를 들어, 망원경으로 발견된 태양계 행성(이제 행성도 태양계 행성을 구분해서 적어줘야 하는 시대 -,.-)인 천왕성과 해왕성도 공식 발견 되기 이전에 망원경으로 관측했던 사람이 제법 있었다고 합니다. 그 중에는 유명한 갈릴레이도 있었구요. 하지만, 그들은 이게 새로운 행성인지 모르고 넘어가버렸기 때문에 발견자로 인정 받지 못했죠. ............................................................................... a drifter off to see the world there's such a lot of world to see |
