SUV is relatively new segment in auto market, but the fastest growing segment in US and around the world. Technically, Chevy Blazer/GMC Jimmy series was the one that created the market. however, the true pioneer is the jeep Cherokee. I believe it was 1983 when the first Cherokee rolled out from assembly line. Since then, SUV became explosively popular, replacing the clumsy station wagons. Now, almost every manufacturers offer SUV in one form or another. Even Honda decided to jump into the market by selling the rebadged Isuzu Rodeo. Contrary to their rugged looks, 90% of all SUV never have a chance to hit the off-roads. People buy SUVs not because they are serious adventurers, but because they think they look better in SUV than minivans. It is sort of a way of life in 90's. Acura NSX...simply the BEST... |
