It's ture that Japanese cars are not as attractive as before due to repidly changing dollar/yen ratio. Back in 1989 when the Lexus LS 400 was first introduced, it started at $35000. Now, the entry fee is at least $50000. Therefore, it may not look as strong as before interms of value/price. However, if you consider other European cars in the same class, you still havve to pay quite al lot more (about $15000 to $20000) to get BMW 740i or M-B E400 (not usre about M-B price though). I guess if one is considering to buy a luxury car, the difference of $20000 may be a pocket change. But, for most buyers with average income, Japanese cars still srepresent good value/price relationship. Unless I want to express some prestigious social status, I will think about twice before running to European dealers. If value of a car is really important as is for most people, one should look at American automobiles. They are much much, and much better today than just a few yrs ago. Especially Chrysler is doing great. Look at Neon/LH/cyruss cars. If Neon looked a little better, I would have baught one since it's got powerful engine with low sticker price. I have waited for at least 2-3 yrs to get my firsrt ever car, and wanted to to be a proud owner of HCD-I What happened to my dream? Hyundai disapointed me big time. They delayed the production a year and later canceled the whole plan. Since I wanted to drive something sporty, I had to go somewhere else. Not that I'm saying Hyundais suck or anything. Unless a person is car maniac, like Mr.SBS said, Elantra or Sonata is an excellent choice. I think Sonata II (although it's just Sonata in US) looks great (looks quite like Mitshu Galant in rear though). I also heard it's among the most spacious in its class. But, not for me. I'm a maniac, and image is everything! Well, not everything, just a part of it. performance is my top priority. If Hyundai really make the sexy-looking HCD-I with powerful DOHC variable-valce-timing, 150 hp engine as they advertised before, I'm sure I'll run to Hyundai dealer in no time. I hope my dream comes true in the near future. |
