Why turbo charged engine gets poor fuel economy even though it gets more power, if efficiency means more power? In Multi Valve engines, more intake air burns the fuel more efficiently. so complete burning of fuel produces more power. But, In Forced Induction Engines(like Turbo or Super charged engines), more dense air-fuel mixture is aquired. Compressed air-fuel mixture in the same volume of combustion chamber explode more powerfully. So, this boosts your car more powerfully. This seems it is nothing to do with the fuel economy. But unless boosting power is needed, better fuel economy is also accomplished in small engines, because it gets more air anyway. |
