The rule is clear on which one you should use. If you go by the rule, you have no choice. Of course many Korean students use 1040A even before they get "resident for tax purpose" status, which is illegal apprarently, although IRS doesn't usually look into poor students' tax return very closely. If it's your sixth year you should use 1040A, I guess, but I'm not sure because you hold J visa. Read instructions and publications...
