Although I do have a friend who had about a month and a half remaining till her OPT expires, and she had no problem coming back to New York. I wouldn't recommend leaving the country unless you are thinking about packing up and going to Korea permanently. The international student advisor at my school told me there's always a risk of not being admitted at the airport, because EAD you receive through OPT does not guarantee a re-entry to this country. It is merely a work permit that allows you to work up to one year or less after graduation, depending on your situation (if you used Pre-Completion OPT while you were at school, you have to deduct the amount of time you used, and I guess you already know about this rule.) If you are currently working and can show a proper and legal evidence of employment, you won't have any trouble coming back, no matter how many months you've got till the expiration date. So, to make a long story short, 1. If you are currently employed, go without fear. 2. If not, you can still go, but bear in mind you might have some trouble coming back. It doesn't happen to everybody, but you just never know. Hope this was helpful to you. |
