[ESPN에서... ] SEATTLE -- Edgar Martinez's double into the left-field corner scored Joey Cora with the tying run and Ken Griffey Jr. with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday as the Seattle Mariners rallied to defeat the New York Yankees 6-5 and advance to the American League Championship Series. Down 5-4 entering their final at-bat and facing Jack McDowell, the Mariners began a most improbable rally. Cora led off the inning with a bunt base hit down the first-base line, sliding around the tag of Don Mattingly. Griffey singled to center with Cora advancing to third. Martinez ripped the ball into the left-field corner, and Griffey never stopped running, sliding in ahead of the relay throw for the winning run. "All the hard work we did finally paid off for us," Griffey said. The Mariners won the AL divisional playoff 3-2, and advance to face Cleveland, which swept Boston 3-0. Sunday's contest marked the first time in American League history the deciding game of a series went to extra innings. The last time any deciding game went to extra frames was in 1980, when the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Houston Astros 8-7 in 10 innings. It also marked the fourth time this week the Mariners were victorious in a game where they faced elimination: Monday against California and the past three nights against the Yankees. Seattle rallied for a pair of runs in the eighth. Griffey hit his post-season record fifth homer of the series, with one out against Cone. After Martinez grounded out, Cone walked Tino Martinez and Jay Buhner singled. Cone walked pinch-hitter Alex Diaz to load the bases. Doug Strange hit for Dan Wilson and, on a 3-2 pitch, Cone missed low with a splitter, scoring pinch-runner Alex Rodriguez with the tying run. New York missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the top of the ninth. Fernandez doubled to lead off against Norm Charlton, Velarde walked and Mariners manager Lou Piniella opted for Johnson. Johnson proceeded to strike out Wade Boggs and get Bernie Williams to pop to second and O'Neill to foul out. Coleman walked against Mariano Rivera to open the ninth and Cora bunted him over. Griffey was walked intentionally and McDowell relieved for the first time in his career. McDowell got Edgar Martinez to swing through a belt-high fastball for strike three and induced rookie Rodriguez to ground a slow ball to shortstop, ending the threat. The Yankees took the lead in their half of the 11th. Mike Stanley walked to lead off the 11th against Randy Johnson (2-0) and was sacrificed to second by Tony Fernandez. Randy Velarde followed with a single in the hole between short and third, scoring pinch-runner Pat Kelly just ahead of Vince Coleman's throw. Johnson, who lost just twice all season and was dominant in Game 3, fanned Jim Leyritz looking and intentionally walked Bernie Williams to put runners at first and second. Johnson then struck out Paul O'Neill to end the inning. 아마 오늘 저녁 8시에 AFKN에서 중계 해줄걸요. 확실하진 않지만... |
