To parsec brother: As you know, magnetic properties of solids originate from electron spins; quite reductionistic. But not knowing the true nature of the electron spin, we understand the magentic phase transitions in some simple cases. There seems to be no room for more fundamental theory and the phase transition itself only appear in an infinite-particle system. How about the Landau's theory of the phase transition? It's not reductionistic, no microscopic theory, but a universal theory. Why don't we go to the specific and concrete problems of science? Then, we can see when the reductionist view is good or not. In a philosophical level, it's too dialectic, i.e. brain-twisting(?) to make logical words, and even when well-done, quite often misleading. |
