This morning, I went to the president of my research center. Actually, I saw his secretary packing some present. I asked her "Who is the lucky guy who will get this chocolate?" She said, "to my boss". She has another for her boyfriend. My thought about the Valentine's chocolate is this. The chocolate should be presentated to a girl's boyfriend or more precisely, to whom the girl wants to be his girlfriend. As far as I am aware, Valentine's Day is for the bashful girls who have no courage to confess her love to a boy. In Korea, however, the original purpot has been distorted. Girls gift chocolates to her girl friend, her superior, coleague, even to her father. I would like to say, "Girls, you don't have to." In some cases, in Korea, people present something not because they want to do, but because 'because others do, or, if I don't my mother, my boyfriend will be disappointed.' Several years ago, do you remember?, there was a wide spread fashion that girls buy double silver ring for her mother. Don't you think this is similar case? Of course, the happening turned out to be the evil scheme of silver dealer. Valentine's day is one of the good imports that our tradition don't have. But please don't make any distortion of the good will. Valentine's Day is Valentine's Day. Not more than or not less than that. Thanks for reading! |
