Then I became a Christian and learned that God wanted to be in control of my life. It was a difficult transition for me. Thoughout the bible, God promises to do mighty works in the lives of the faithful. We want to be believe that God can do these things, but often we live our life hedging our bet by taking matters into our own hands. Abraham and Sarah had the same difficulty. They could not believe god's promise that an old woman could bear a child. They hedged their bet by having Abraham father a child by hagar, who was younger than Sarah. When God promises miracles and we cannot see how they could happen, we may want to take things in our own hands. When we do that, we deny ourselves the experience of the power of God and we get something less than the best As with Hagar and sarah, it can produce strained and even broken relationships with god. God kept the promise. Isaac was born, and Abraham and sarah knew God's power in their live. When we find ourselves needing a miracle, let us wait and trust that in due time god will act. O God Almighty, help me to trust you to do your miracles in my life. -- Amen -- G.William Zuspan |
