[ studyingabroad ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): iLUSiON (띠띠빤쮸) 날 짜 (Date): 2004년 1월 15일 목요일 오후 01시 53분 46초 제 목(Title): hypes on GRE no it is not necessary in a sense many professors don't care that much if they know the school you came from. it is necessary in a sense admistraive units in university requires it. just take it quickely and send it. all other things like GPA, letters and perhaps TOEFL, it is Ok. but to be safe, get higher score but profs. some chinse students are getting like 99% except analytical, many profs don't trust the score that much. see... 99% in verbal but when they come to US, their english real sux big time. try to get high analytical score. that will differentiate you from hundreds of chinese applications. there are so many applications to US schools, it is norm that most applications that does not meet TOEFL < 600, GPA < 3.0 are usually not even conidered althought US schools don't say this facts in their webpage. if you get a reference letter from an american professor or professors american proessors will recognize, that will increase your accptance change by 30-50%. most reference letters are like factory produced espeically from asia -china, korea... no american profs will pay any attention to it. if you know a prof well..and if you impress the prof, you can even get into any school with 2.0 GPA. who cares about GRE or GPA anyway... write a paper and publish it in an american journal. that will give you minimum 30% increase in your chance of getting in - you have to be the single author or the first author all others do not count. what profs are looking at is sparkling indepence and research capability since every application looks OK in paper. iLUSiON whitepolarcow@hotmail.com |
