However, unfortunately, it' s not easy to get a chance 'cause waiting list is always full and long. Usually people are waiting for 6 months to 1 year. There are several apartment complexes near the UCSD campus, of which rates are about $800-1000 for one bedroom apartm. The vacancy rate is low.So, you better apply early if possible.
