Students must be able to understand rapid, idiomatic English and to express themselves clearly in speech and writing. If English is not your first language or if English is not the primary language spoken in your home, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students who are academically admissible but whose TOEFL score is below 550 (213) can be admitted to the University with the condition that they must first attain the 550 (213) TOEFL score before classes begin or enroll in intensive English courses offered at Boston University4s Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (CELOP). College of Communication and College of General Studies applicants must score 600 (250) or above on the TOEFL. A score of 600 (250) or above is also recommended for applicants to the School of Management. Upon reaching proficiency in English, students continue their academic studies at Boston University. Students should indicate on the registration form that they wish the test results to be sent directly to Boston University. The TOEFL code for Boston University is 3087.
