The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University is situated in Raleigh, North Carolina, where it plays a vital role in the high-tech indistry of the nearby Research Triangle Park. This includes employment opportunities for the department's 1,100 undergraduate and 360 graduate students, as well as strong industry-research ties for its 50+ faculty members. A recent comprehensive ranking by the National Research Council confirmed that the NC State ECE department is among the most prominent programs in the nation. The Department offers programs of study leading to the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. The graduate program is led by 50 highly qualified faculty members and attracts outstanding students from the U.S. and around the world. Approximately one-third of the graduate students come from North Carolina, one-third from the remainder of the U.S., and one-third from outside the U.S. The Department awarded 280 B.S., 97 M.S., and 27 Ph.D. degrees in academic year 1991-92. More than 200 of the graduate students are supported each year through fellowships, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships. Recent indications are that NC State Ph.D.s are experiencing excellent employment opportunities. The large ECE graduate enrollment is sustained by a research program with an expenditure rate of approximately nine million dollars per year. North Carolina State University consistently ranks among the top 10 institutions in the United States in industrial research funding, providing substantial evidence of the research quality and relevance. The Department is organized into several research units whose disciplinary areas coincide with faculty research interests. ----------- *Excellence, the goal we may achieve after the death. *Genius, the perfection we may want to be always. email: seoy@cspar.uah.edu, URL: http://cspar.uah.edu/~seoy/ |
