I didn't know biology has advanced to that level. Is there anyone who made an artificial life, I mean not grown or developed by natural cells, just by mixing up all necessary molecules and some ions? It was my understanding of molecular biology that it can explain(?) some processes such as respiration, photosynthesis, reproduction of DNA and proteins, etc, in life but not life itself. Do you mean that the life is just a collection of such processes in a well-defined organic body? For a good contrast, solid-state physicists do not say we are understanding a certain solid simply because we can make it just by mixing up all the necessary components. When I was mentioning Boltzman, I just want to say even in a simplest system, physicists needed a new paradigm to explain it and I think it is quite natural (logically?) that we may need many genii like Boltzman in biology dealing with much more complicated system. I know only Darwin in biology. Is there any other good man/woman but Pauling or Watson or Crick? |
