In the case of solid, it is observed that the jump conditions are satisfied for the phase boundary just like wave propagation. Mathematically they introduce an interface energy depending on the volume fraction of the other phase within the interface. The energy is written in the form of Laplacian of the volume fraction. Then they solve the diffusion type PDE to get the speed of phase boundary. |
