The very next question she asked me was "How long have you been in Korea?" "Over four months" I replied hesitantly. She was quite surprised. But before she could put another question, I said promptly "Sorry, I have been to Seoul once". She asked "when"? I, in a boasting manner, replied "On the 15th august when your nation was celebrating the Liberation Day". She said laughingly "May be you were the foreign chief guest or representative of your country ?" I laughed too and added "Sure, I couldn뭪 celebrate the Independence day of India but I enjoyed the Korean* Liberation day". What a coincidence ! I was satisfied with my answer. Kids have always been an attraction for me. As this was my first time going out of India and none of my family members had gone abroad I decided to send them some pictures of Korean kids. I asked my Korean friend that I want to have some pictures of the Korean kids. Luckily I had a camera and suddenly we saw some school going kids. My friend asked them to stop for a while and I took pictures of them. I was aware of my poor hangul, so I kept silence. But suddenly a voice broke the silence and asked " what are you going to do with these pictures?" I was surprised to hear such a perfect English. I asked " Aren뭪 you Korean?" She replied " Of-course, I am a Korean. I was born in USA and spent some time there before coming to Korea." What a wonderful day ! I was saying myself. There are many such interesting happenings that a nice book can be written about my experiences in Seoul. I really fell in love with Seoul and her vicinity. I got more chances to see her very closely. The unforgettable moments in Seoul with my friend were coming to an end as my friend had decided to study in USA. Accidentally when she was leaving Seoul it was the night of 14th August. At that time I reminded her of my departure from New Delhi to Seoul. Her parents were also becoming emotional and I decided to leave her with them for some time. Her parents eyes were full of tears, mine too. At that time I asked a question to myself and Seoul "Seoul, Is it Love?" I know that the answer of it will never come and I just think of Seoul and my friend whenever I have some free time to think. I would like to express my love and feelings for Seoul in this way "This private Eden, this melody is green Don뭪 you feel, it was made by nature, for generations and generations to see" _______________________________________________________________________________ _____ *Both Korea and India have the same Liberation/Independence day. |
