We are running the Pirates Bulletin Board System (PBBS) software, version 1.6, ported to ESIX/System V and enhanced by the Sysops. Everyone is welcome to an account, but know that we reserve the right to remove the accounts of anyone who engages in illegal activities, harasses other users, or is just plain annoying. The system administrators require everyone's real name, address, and e-mail path (if you have one). Also be advised that you real name will be accessible to other users; addresses accessable only to the Sysops though. Some answers to questions people have asked when querying this account your requests are automatically replied to but sometimes human eyes do browse this mail): - We support chat, private talk, e-mail (within the board only), an IRC link with Chatsubo BBS (chatsubo.nersc.gov) and a variety of boards for reading and posting. If you you ever visited Mars Hotel or Badboy's Inn then you know what to expect. - Most of the Nest's users are college students, with a fair number of high school types from the NEBBS program onboard also. Very similar "clientele" as was found on Mars or any other PBBS. - The Eagle's Nest is NOT a public access UNIX system. You do not have shell access, there is no Usenet, and no e-mail outside the bbs system. - There are NO files for downloading. The seabass is not an ftp site, and that sort of thing would strain its networking terribly. To log in, you telnet to seabass.st.usm.edu (or: 131.95.127.2) login: bbs Password: bbs BUT...you'll need a valid userid/password at this point. To apply for an account, e-mail the following information: Your desired userid (handle) - up to 12 letters (no numbers or spaces) An initial password - 1-12 characters (please change the password upon logging in by selecting (X)yz/(P)assword) Your terminal type (I'll warn you, some of the termcap entries on the seabass are screwy; vt100 works fine for me though) Your real name Your present or permanent snail mail address Your e-mail path if you have e-mail access Send it to one of the following: gtvega@seabass.st.usm.edu rocker@rock.b11.ingr.com and we will get back you to as soon as possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guy Vega University of Southern Mississippi cactus |
