I think jump roping is a good exercise when you don't have enough space, and it brings quite similar effect as running does. Based on my experience, we need make our ropes a little tight to do quick jump roping. Take a look at the jump rope of a boxer, you will see a lot of ties in the rope. Most of jump ropes are too loose when you buy it. Most people use it without making it tighter. When you make ties to make the rope tighter, the weight of knots also makes your rope moves quicker. (This is hard for me to explain. It will be easier to rotate a line around you when you have some weight at the end of rope, such as coins or rock. It is the same physical principle, i guess.) Bend your knees a little bit when you do the jump roping. Set your eyes on the ground of about two meter away from you. Keep your both hands that are holding the rope as close as you can so that the arc that you make with roping could be small. Try not to move your arm, use only your rist (is this vocabulary right?) so that you can do it quickly. Switching foot when you do jump rope might be good for improving your footwalk (that I heard), but from my experience, not switching foot took me more energy and was good for my exercise. After you used to jump roping, it is so easy to do it for 10, 20, 30 minutes. Trust me. :) Like some boxers do, we need speed up to get more exercise effect. (After we get used to do it.) For example, rounding twice in a jump, jumping like running (pulling your leg closer to your stomach) for 30 seconds or 1 minutes or 3 minutes. I was not good, but I used to go gym for boxing and used to do the jump roping a lot. Nothing informative, or nothing fun what I write, this thread just remind me when I used to do jump roping a lot and sweater.... Conclusion: Practice a little bit and you will be as fast as the boxer you saw. * You do that on the ground or wooden floor, do not do it on concrete. * Use only front part of your feet, shoot, this is hard to explain, you do use use foot as like a dancer, keep your rear part of your feet off the ground all the time. That will make you move quick. * Use music, radio etc. As you might have heard, in the gym they use some clock that keeep you exercise for 3 mintues and a minute break. Even for ourselves, I found time based jump roping is bettr than counting how many times I jumped. *Use only your nose to breathe. *Relax. (I know this is so hard part for exercise. ^_^ ) |
