In addition to the difference in VTEC, vibration and harshness control play an important role in automobile making. GM's Quad4 engine is a good example. Back in mid 1980's, the Quad4 was developed, producing 150 hp with only 2.0-liter dispalcement. It's was quite an achievement then although it's still good today. now, why has it not been so popular since then? VIBRATION. It had not have a counter-rotaing balance shaft to quell the vibratiion until this year (1995 or 1994, not sure). If you use the same compay argument, you had better remember that honda also makes NSXs of which I am a hell of a fan. It has ONLY 3.0-liter while Legend has 3.2-liter. Then, why does an NSX make 250 hp (without VTEC, see NSX catalog) while Legend makes 200 hp (230 hp in Type-II engine as in Coupe and GS sedan)? Becasue NSX is supposed to be a SPORTS car while legend is a LUXURY car. I'm sure you can tell the different purposes of the two disticnt segments. NSX |
