| [ car ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): mahalo (세지니) 날 짜 (Date): 1995년01월14일(토) 11시54분45초 KST 제 목(Title): 국산 자동차의 위치..... 국산 자동차의 기술 수준이나 그에대한 외국에서의 평가는 그리 뛰어나지 못하다는 것을 알 만한 사람들은 다 알고 있는 사실이다. 최근 많은 기술 향상과 더 나은 디자인 개발로 상승세를 타고 있는 것 또한 사실이나, 이로인해 자칫 국산 자동차의 현수준을 주관적으로만 평가하여 그 위치를 과대 평가하는 오판을 자제 하기위해 미국의 consumer reports를 인용하여 그 실체를 알아보고자 한다. 필자의 개인적인 생각을 피하기 위해 그 내용을 영문으로 베끼는 것을 미리 밝혀 두고자 한다. 헤헤:) FORD ASPIRE (small car) *Trim lines: Base, SE *Body Styles: 2-door hatchback, 4-door hatchback... This new model replaces the FORD FESTIVA, which anchored teh small-car end of of FORD"S lineup. Like the Festiva, the Aspire is made in Korea by Kia. Think of it as a basic urban runabout, long on fuel economy but very short on performance. Its handling is very clumsy. The Aspire comes in an SE version, which aspires to be spotier than the normal two-or four hattchback. HYUNDAI ELANTRA (small car) * Trim lines: Base, GS * Body styles:4 door *Predicted reliability: worse This Korean -made model represents a small step up from the uninspired Hyundai Excel. It needs several more steps. The 1.6 liter Four is noisy and feels flat. The optional 1.8 liter Four is more powerful. The car well enough on smooth roads, but the suspension crashes and bangs on burmps that other cars take in stride. The front seats offer good all - round support, and the driver can see out well. The rear holds two tall passengers easily and accepts well only on its highest and noisest setting. HYUNDAI EXCEL (small car) Trim lines: Base, GS * Body styles: 2 door hattchback, 4-door Predicted reliability: worse This model has changed little in the past few years: it's still one of the cheapest cars available, in the worst sense. Its good fuel economy and low price don,t make up for its weak acceleration, crude handling, and subpar ride. Hyundai's unusual warranty pays for virtually all maintenance for the first two years, but the Excel has a poor reliability record. Replaced by the Accent in 1995. HYUNDAI SCOUPE * Trim lines: Base , LS, Turbo * Body Style: 2-door The Scoupe represents the low budget act in the sporty-car arena, a basic car with trendy styling but a crude chassis. The high trim line Turbo version should at least provide peppy acceleration. Otherwise, the Scoupe is a modest all-round performer. The LS version comes with a reasonable level of standard equipment, and all version offer adequate roominess in the front seats. The problem is, a sporty car should be fun to drive, and the Scoupe isn't. HYUNDAI SONATA (mid-sized car under $25,000) * Trim lines: Base, GL, GL V6, GLS * Body style: 4-door Hyundai models have competed well in price, but not much else. The previous Sonata has had a very poor reliability record. The latest one, introduced as a 1995 model, is larger in nearly every dimension. It's one inch longer than the HONDA Accord, but still smaller than such competitors as the Toyota Camrt. The standard engines, a 2.0 -liter Four, is a smidgen more powerful than last year's.
