Immigration process for family immigration for spouse usually takes about 6 months. I've seen my friend's husband do it about 6 months. But he came from Korea, and he could not work legally. He ended up helping out at the family business until he got his permanent residency. I have not much knowledge of employment visa, however, it may not be as easy as it sounds. s/w engineer is in demand, however, so it may be a lot more speedier process. especially, if the company who's hiring has lots of "lobbying" power, it helps a lot.
