I am about to introduce you to the world of pesudo socket protocol for hertz. Please, read this manual carefully before you do anything! ============================================================================ O.K. Let me explain about a pesudo socket protocol. Pesudo socket protocol is a program which runs under the user account of the hertz machine. When this program is executed, then it will give that particular user a socket capability. But remember since the user does not have a net node assigned by hertz system, it doesn't have a real TCP/IP capability. You may reach the other network, ftp up/down load(direct link between machines) and telnet but Server mode of the slip portocol capability is impossible with this kind of pesudo slip connection. ============================================================================ Welcome to the World of TIA(The Internet Adapter). Here is the instruction on how to obtain TIA(for your unix-Ultrix 4.3.b system) and related software for your windows TCP/IP system(winsock, Telnet Applications, QvtNet, Netscape(WWW browser <--- Yhea! The best one I've used so far....There have been a lot of upgrades on the Netscape but I think I have the best Netscape Version which is Ver. 96b - I like the clean graphic interface(This version of Netscape is the last version with rotating symbols). Anyway, Let the installation begin! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + Installation !!!! + ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1) Please, FTP kids.kotel.co.kr and down load toolbox.zip file under the directory /pub/snic/inventor. This file contains serveral other zip files. Contents of the toolbox.zip file are: ================================================================= netscape.zip - netscape mosaic browser twsk.zip - windows socket protocol for your PC qvtnet.zip - telnet/ftp/mail/news/server manager netware.zip - network related applications ws_ftp.zip - windows ftp applicatios ================================================================= 2) Please, make an appropriate dirctories for the programs and unzip programs into the corresponding directory. When Windows is running then use the program manager to create a new group of your desired name(goto the pull down menu specified by name "File" and pull down to select a "New" options). Open the newly created group and select "New" again to make a link to the existing programs on your hard drives(This time, choosing a "New" will create item). Use a brows ability of the windows file system to go to the directories you dumped your zip programs into and select there *.exe files. exe files to be selected for the windows linkage are : ======================================================== netscape.zip - netscape.exe twsk.zip - tcpman.exe qvtnet.zip - wnqvtwsk.exe and tnstart.exe netware.zip - bsdcaht.exe, comtcfg.exe, hostname.exe, finger.exe, tardis.exe, and trmptel.exe ws_ftp - ws_ftp.exe ======================================================== For qvtnet and twsk(trumpet winsock) requries a little modification before you run the program. Don't Panic! It's very simple procedure to be performed. Just read qvtnet.ini and change my e-mail address(if you see) into your address or if there is no user name or e-mail addresses exist...then create one! Also there must be path and directory indicated(create a directory on your needs---ex: c:\mail c:\news c:\ftp c:\logs). To modify a winsock, then winsock must be up and running on windows. When winsock is running go to the pull down menu "file" and goto the setup and change ip address of the system from 128.235.1.2 to 128.235.nnn.nnn and here nnn can be any of 1~3 digit number(anything you like) and this setting must be matched with qvtnet.ini's system ip addresses ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O TIA - The Internet Adapter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I believe that you are done with setting programs for you PC. Let's rock! Following information will help you where to get a tia and how to run it! Remember you will be able to run a TIA with its evalutation code and they are good for 15 days. I have purchased my license and they costed me a 25buckaroo and I think they are worth it! You are also promised to get a free upgrade of future TIA which will be PPP based instead of slip. Anyway, here are instructions. 1) Ftp to a marketplace.com. Use ftp for a user name and your e-mail address for a password. 2) Down load mips.dec.ultirix.4.3.tia 3) Disconnect your ftp and rename downloaded file to tia 4) Type "chmod u+x tia" 5) E-mail a black mail to a tia-single@marketplace.com . To do this simply type "mail tia-single@marketplace.com", press return once to skip the subject heading, type "." then return to send a null message. 6) Wait for a 3 seconds 7) Check your e-mail! You should have license code order form mailed back by marketplace's mailbot. 8) Save this mail into file. 9) Edit a file. When you do this please make sure you fill all the neccesary informations. Don't forget to write your e-mail account and platform of hertz - Ultrix(remember don't erase any part of the mail just add) Be sure to place x on evaluation license code order instead of purchase order. 10) When the editing is complete then plese send a letter back to sender. You can do this by typing "mail tia-single@marketplace.com < form" . Here form is the name of the order form file. 11) Wait for an another 3 seconds. *12) Check your e-mail and save license code into ".tia" file. This is very important because TIA checks for .tia license code whenever TIA is executed. 13) Now, you are ready for a cyber internet! 14) Hang up your modem and pop that winsock! 15) Goto dialler and manual mode...type atdt3500 or atdt2927 to get hooked to hertz 16) Log on to your account as usual but when you see %, then type tia to activate your very first pesudo slip connection. When you see the similar message: Slip Reay.... Press <ESC> key to activate the link! 17) Now minimize a Trumpet winsock and pop out ether qvtnet or netscape... and I don't think I have to explain the rest of the stuff.... Paul Cho ps : you need to change a informations on netscape after netscape is started. Go to the pull down manu options and select prefersnces. You should check all the settings and modify the setting to your needs. They are all self explanatory(use netscapes's help!) ex: change cache directory, user name, user e-mail address, external application locations, and memory usage...etc. |
