"Park is anchor of Dodgers' rotation" The Los Angeles Dodgers always have been serious about their "United Nations Rotation." They regard it as the best path to success, not a novelty. That always made sense given the success of Dominican Ramon Martinez, Japanese Hideo Nomo, Mexican Ismael Valdes, American Tom Candiotti and South Korean Chan Ho Park. The beauty of the rotation is everyone except Candiotti has had a turn as staff ace. Now is Park's time. Parkmania, a variation on Nomo's Japanese- inspired Nomomania, might not be far behind. "(Park) has become an outstanding, dominating pitcher," Dodgers manager Bill Russell says. Park, 24, was 5-5 with a 3.64 ERA last year. This year he's 13-6 with a 3.31 ERA because he has thrown more strikes, especially early in the count. "This is something I have been working for," Park says." I've had a lot of help and time to work on things." Park has worked 171 1/3 innings, more than half as many as his high in three previous seasons in North America. He was hit hard Saturday, but some extra rest - given because of his career-high workload - might have thrown him out of his groove. Still, he has won nine of his 11 starts since the All-Star break. He's 9-2 after Dodgers losses. When the Dodgers signed Park and Nomo in 1994 and '95, most scouts said Park would be the better pro. That wasn't true at first. It is now. Korean-Americans show up in large numbers for his starts. Those starts are telecast to the morning-commute crowd in South Korea. A few weeks ago he received a congratulatory telegram from the president of South Korea. He has $2.6 million in enorsements in his native land, including $850,000 from an electronics firm.
