The multiplicity of 0 is n-1. By the spectral mapping theorem, the eigenvalues of I + VV' are 1+lambda, 1+0,\cdots, 1+0. Hence \det(I+VV')=(1+lambda)(1+0) \cdots (1+0)=1+\lambda. Am i right? Sorry if i am wrong. And sorry for not using the elementary product argument, but I like spectral theory. |
