The candidaite would be asked to guess an integer number between 1 and 100 that gates had chosen. if the candidate got it right on the first guess , they received five dollars. if it takes two guesses, they get four dollars and so on. on the sixth guess there is no payoff and after that the candidate had to pay a dollar a guess. after each guess the candidiate would be told whether their guess was too hight or too low. finally gates would ask if they want to play the game. Let's suppose we define a strategy for Gates (the candiate) as choosing(guessing) among the 100 numbers with specified probabilities. Find the optimal strategy for Bill Gates and the job candidate. (Optimal means a strategy that has maximum or minimum expected number of guesses.) 이런류의 문제에선 정확히 무엇에 관한(with respect to what) 옵티마이제이션인지 명백히 밝히지 않으면 옛날 퀴즈보드에서 한참 옥신각신했던것처럼(그때는 무슨문제였었더라?) 서로 엉뚱한 문제를 풀고있게됩니다.
