CHICAGO (AP) -- A former college basketball coach was slain and six Orthodox Jews were wounded in a series of drive-by shootings that may have been committed by the same person, police said today. Minorities appeared to be targeted in the crimes Friday night, and each shooting was linked to a blue car. Two Asian-Americans were shot at as they rode in their vehicle but were not injured. There were no immediate arrests. The shootings -- all within approximately 12 miles of each other -- began in the northern Chicago neighborhood of Rogers Park and ended in the suburbs of Skokie and Northbrook. Ricky Byrdsong, who was fired as basketball coach by Northwestern University in 1997, was shot in the back as he jogged with his children near his home in suburban Skokie. He died at Evanston Hospital early today following surgery. Skokie police Lt. Barry Silverberg said at least seven shots were fired at Byrdsong, a 42-year-old black man. His children were not injured. Police said the shots appear to have come from a light blue car. Earlier, the Orthodox Jews were wounded in six separate locations as they walked home from Sabbath services in Rogers Park. None of the wounds was considered life threatening. One man and a 15-year-old boy were in serious condition, two men were in fair condition and two others were treated and released. Another person in the neighborhood was shot at but was not wounded as the bullet passed through the person's clothing, police said. Witnesses told Chicago police all of the shots came from a blue car. In the final incident, Northbrook police said a motorist pulled up beside another car on a major thoroughfare and fired several shots at the two Asian-Americans inside. A recorded message from Northbrook police said the shots came from a light blue car. The driver was said to be a white man in his 30s. Police spokesman Pat Camden said today that ``preliminary indications seem to indicate'' that the shootings were the work of one person. ``We have shell casings from three locations that will be analyzed and will tell us if the offender is one and the same,'' Camden said. Byrdsong was fired after four unsuccessful and occasionally odd seasons with the Wildcats. During one 1994 game at the University of Minnesota, Byrdsong roamed the stands, chatting with fans and waving to the crowd while an assistant led the team. He was kicked out of a seat as the crowd chanted ``Byrdsong's nuts.'' It was a bizarre motivational ploy by a man feeling the pressures of big-time college basketball. Byrdsong took a 12-day leave after that game, consulting doctors about his mental and physical health. Byrdsong's four-year record at Northwestern was 34-78, including 10-62 in the Big Ten Conference. His 1995 team was linked to a point-shaving scandal, but government prosecutors said he was ignorant of the scheme. --,--`-<@ 매일 그대와 아침햇살 받으며 매일 그대와 눈을 뜨고파.. 잠이 들고파..
