The reasons for this may include the one explained above (1), and/or other common prejudice overseen all over the world from ancient that "men are more holly than women, women should not be allowed to enter "holly" places." If not all over the world, then Asian countries that was influenced by Chinese Confucianism. The example for this from recent events, though this is not food related, is "Danpatsu-shiki (hair cut ceremony of Sumo wrestler, retirement ceremony for them). The main part of ceremony is actually hair cut event. In that part of the ceremony, friends/families/masters/seniors go up the "Dohyo" (Sumo field) and cut a portion of "Mage/Daiicho". And probably families of the retiring wrestler would present flowers to him. But in the Sunday Danpatsu-shiki, the daughter of the retiring wrestler was not allowed to go up the Dohyo (women are prohibited) and gave the flower to him at the edge of Dohyo. nsns |
