The French government declared a few weeks ago that they will resume nuclear testing in the Pacific. I basically think that the testing should not be done, and if it were to be done, it should be done in Paris, not the Pacific Ocean. The U.S., British, and French government have long been a staunch backer of the NPT(Nuclear Proliferation Treaty). The treaty basically limits the right to own nuclear weapons to those countries that already owns them as I stated in the previous article. If those countries that already own nuclear weapons keep on developing better - or worse for those who will be bombed someday later - nuclear weapons, what moral right do they have to forbid other countries from developing their own? Another word on the testing sight. The French insist that the islands in the Pacific are safe. Hell, if that's true, why not test in France. Why do they have to go half around the world to do a "safe" test? The Australians are the New Zealanders are rightly incensed. While the French are destroying the moral foundation of the NPT, the Americans refuse to condemn the testing. Why? The only reason I can think of is that they plan on continuing their own testing program. |
