In larger cities, there might be differences (i'm sure there are), but the fact of the matter is, white people where i live don't understand asiatics. When we did the Joy Kogawa poem in school last year (it's the one that finishes off, "i prayed...that i could be white"), the teacher had no idea how to approach it. To me, asians have adapted to western society, but I do not believe that western society has adapted to greet us fully. The reason why me and my friend wanted to start a e-magazine based soley on asians is because, the part of Canada we live is totally uni-cultural. Schools, stores, libraries, cater completely to the whites. I take a WORLD history course, but we do nothing concerning asians. I asked my teacher the reason for this; he replied "your problem is you're living in cCanada.' I'm not out to separate the races, but I strongly believe world unification has to begin in a series of steps, the first of which is unification of the asian communities. There is too much hatred between Koreans and Japanes, Chinese and Japanese, etc.. I didn't see a lot of whites in Korea last year; I did come across a group of women, probably wives of soldiers or soldiers themselves at a big Korean market. They were talking with each other in English, so that the merchants would not understand them. But I did; they were commenting on how Korean shops are like "bargain basements" and how cheap the materials were, as well as pking fun at the Korean language. Koreans are bigots too, but they have been brainwashed by Hollywood, and they don't refer to themselves as being understanding liberals, unlike the Americans, who act the same, but are hypocrites. People are created equal, but we are not treated equal. kd |
