Where are you witty and fun writers? Perhaps the start of a fresh school year is causing peole to dig the books and hold themelves from KIDDING. But that didn't seem to be a problem last semester... Anyway, so here I am going to provide you with a funny experience I had over the summer. Here goes: I was staying with a relative in Seoul over the summer. About ten days after I got back to Seoul, this funny thing happened to me. That morning, I was about to go somewhere (can't remember) and as usual, I jaywalked the street in order to catch the bus. I lived in a very remote area of Seoul, by the way. I heard a loud whistle as I crossed the street, and suddenly I felt a hundred eyes riveted on me. "what's wrong?" I thought in my mind. I finished crossing.. and then I realized there was a cop walking towards me. Oh no! There was an A-jumma sitting in front of her store. SHe whispers " hey, run away or otherwise he will go after you! Don't you know there is a 5000- won fine for jaywalking?" Run away from what? ANd besides I saw the cop walking furiously towards me. So I faced him bravely. He asked for my i.d. (something like social security card). Well, I didn't have one, so I looked at him straigth in the face and told him I didn't have one. He goes " what do you mean? everybody has one." I told him that I just came from the U.S> and etc. He stared straigth in my eyes.. a few seconds passed.. and he nodded and went away. What a relief. But the punch line came right after. The a-jumma who watched ( and apparently listened) the whole event exclaimed in a loud voice: " A-gassi, Chung Mal Dae Dan Hae!!!" She thought I told the cop a lie! I just rolled my eyes and stared at her. Oh gosh, Korea and its a-jummas. Anyways, after that event, I made sure to walk the extra 50 meters to cross at the crosswalk.. Two months later, a crosswalk is made right at the very spot I was "caught". And by the way, the fine for jaywalking is now 30000 won. Hope you thought the story funny. I wish I could soemhow emulate the tone and voice of the a-jumma on this screeen, but that is up to your imagination.. just think of a loud mouthed your typical neighboprhood nosey a-jumma .. |
