[ EnglishOnly ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): tivor (BlackOnyx) 날 짜 (Date): 1994년09월10일(토) 00시44분26초 KDT 제 목(Title): Just a Thought.... again.... =d well, here's a point that was brought up in my HSS 280 class (racism in american society class) why are koreans, after oh-so-many years of living and settling in the american society, still referred to as "korean immigrants"? hmm, i thought that was a nice point. never occurred to me before. anybody keeping an eye on that new sitcom about korean family in US? what's the title, i forgot.... but i remember that the title didn't much reflect anything korean. when i saw a preview of it in "entertainment tonight" i thought it was a sitcom about a chinese family. all the casts look chinese! right out of "joy luck club," they seem. oh well. my friends told me that it was about a korean family. ho hum... what's up with this? =d many of the sitcoms featuring black family depict the characters living just like whites. gladly there is no black version of 90210 (thank god), but i think some of these sitcoms are sending subliminal message that people of minority races should assimilate to white value systems and everything. i think cosby show is a nice example to this point. why is it that we dont see sitcoms with both black and white charcters? it's almost either melrose place where practically everyone is white or family matters where you see maybe one white character in five episodes? why such a segregation in sitcoms? hmmmm.... now i hope that new korean sitcom -- whatever the title may be -- does not show korean people living exactly like whites in order to succeed, not show korean (or asian) characters only, but rather show korean people struggling and succeeding in this multicultural society, interacting with blacks, whites, hispanics, and asians equally, and not assimilating to the white culture to a point where they lose their korean identity.
