As I read Pagel's, I thought of Murakami's; then whispered, mysteriously, "Life is like a pinball game. I don't think I'm original; creative, either. And who is? After all, culture is a form of slightly modified copy of the original. So don't take someone's writing (mine included) as unbendingly original (i.e. something out of nothing).
