[ EnglishOnly ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): tivor (BlackOnyx) 날 짜 (Date): 1994년05월02일(월) 07시55분44초 KST 제 목(Title): Movies.... i watched two movies yesterday: "The Piano" and "Demolition Man" two very different movies, needless to say. i enjoyed both movies... very interesting movies. both movies seem to have nice soundtracks... i gotta get both.... lovely piano harmony to cyberpunk techno sounds... i thought "the Piano" was quite intriguing. anybody watched the movie? it was laiden with symbolisms as well... like the symbolistic baptism at the end of the movie. i still can't understand why the woman falls in love with that Baines guy at all. just romantic stuff? hmm. one review of the movie said that the movie builds on a lie, "a lie that a woman would come to terms with a rapist by willing herself to fall in love with him, a lie that a least violent rapist would give in to the silent moral resistance of the woman, a lie that a passive resistance would be rewarded abundantly later," etc. it's not word-for-word quote from that review, but it was something like that. i thought it was intriguing, especially since i read that review only an hour before watching the movie. that aspect of the movie was in my attention... rape and woman and love and... whatever else that follows. in the end, i didn't like any of the characters. strange, i thought you always end up with a character you like (or 'have to' like) in a movie. i guess not. well, i suppose you have to give credit to Baines and that mute lady (forgot her name) for bringing their relationship nicely in the end, though very unlikely the case is. i mean, how many ppl actually fall in love with women that they rape for simple gratification of their sexual needs? ("there are... things i like to do while you're playing that piano," says Baines. "you visit here as many as there are keys in the piano." hardly seems he's playing up his affection. lack of social skills? maybe. but i think not) and what's up with that woman? total wanton sexuality, as if Baines's rape "awoke" her somehow. kiss bye-bye to any respect for her. well, but i guess i enjoyed the movie. it was weird. but i liked the music, symbolisms ("it won't sing. it lost its voice," says an indian, holding a disassembled key of the piano), and the visuals (predominant blue hues throughout the movie, i think). and there were some funny parts too. and some very graphic sex scene. (ahem) now i totally sound like some movie commentary whatnot, but, well, i think it's a good movie to watch and have a debate afterwards. not for cooling head or relieving stress. for cooling head or relieving stress, "Demolition Man" was an awesome movie! i can't believe it didn't do very well at the box office! i think it came out with a bad timing, plus it had very tough competitions, i think. and the title could have been better. but the movie was very excellent, 11 out of scale of 10 if you're a sci-fi fan. the movie's vision of 2032 was very credible, and intriguing. i think it was created by the same guy who created the the dark world of "Blade Runner." the world is very believably rendered, down to meticulous details. ("Enjoy-joy your meal.") stallon and snypes play awesome, and i repeat AWESOME action roles here. snypes (or is it snipes?) was sooooo good in playing the role of "mad dog killer type," as the movie says. it has its own share of flaws in settings and plot, but it's fun to spot them out as well. (ppl still use crt display in 2032?? i thought flat lcd was on the horizon) (picky, eh?) go watch this movie. this is really a must-watch movie. and check out a very possible vision of future if we dont keep our eyes peeled. i can't believe i typed all that. what am i, a movie critic?? i guess i shouldnt have watched that movie critic tv show last night. oh well. any other good movies out there? has anyone watched "The Perfect World" starring Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood, directed by Eastwood himself? i heard the movie was good, but nothing concrete. any movie reviewer out there? =) shoot, i'm hungry. and i have to give someone a wake-up call. oh well take care, folks.
