[ EnglishOnly ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): guest (Tivor) 날 짜 (Date): 1994년04월06일(수) 10시40분25초 KST 제 목(Title): re: mono (Guess!)'s Just a Thought well, here's how i see it. people like to see themselves different (VERY different) from mundane animals like you said. and people usually account our intelligence, our reason, as the difference. and i think that is right. what most people ignore is that we still ARE animals. people like to think that we are all intelligence, no animal. nobody says it so, but that is the general idea. no one likes to think of human beings as driven purely by its natural needs or instincts like animals. human beings are above that right? well, yes and no is my answer. first, no, we ARE still animals. we are still driven by our natural needs and instincts. we still need to eat, right? and there is no one i know who won't resist if a mugger tries to kill him. in fact, many would rather kill than be killed if the situation got so desperate. we are still bound by our basic needs and instincts. however, we humans are above that level. we do have intelligence and reason that can effectively restrain our instincts, our bestial side. think of people fasting. and think of the first Christian martyrs who gave up their lives in defense of their belief. we never see any animal dying for what it "believes" in. so, in conclusion, i think human beings are animals with reason laid on top of it. as i said in an earlier post, there is a Beast in us all.
