Frankly, I have no idea how, in the U.S. (or outside Korea, for that matter), they teach about writing DokHuGam. I don't even know if there would be a term (kr.dic.yahoo.com says it's "one's impressions of [after reading] a book," but that's not as concise as the term we use). I'd use "Essay on ..." or "Thoughts on ..." or just "On ...". But that's just me. And I don't know if there is any one method to do such a thing or if there should be one. And given the impression I have about the teaching methodologies of the U.S., I'd say they would be just as happy if the students actually read books. :) Unless you are doing the review of a book for a magazine, I don't think it has to be long or has to recount what the author said (or the short summary of the story). For personal reflections, I think it's really unnecessary. Read a book (watch a movie, or listen to a CD) and there should be several things (be it a character, a situation, a phrase, or just a feeling you had) you noticed. I think it would be enough to make a note of them and maybe reflect a bit further on them, just as you would on this message boards. Well, at least that's what I try to do... I think books are wonderful, although I don't read much fictions anymore (I seem to prefer fictions on a TV or a movie screen). Good luck on your summer project. 홍. -- 2003-02-13 ------------------------- http://www.sori.org/hongcho/ -- In audio, as elsewhere, fool-proof systems prove the existance of fools. -- Dick Pierce |
