I also thought about correcting someone else's postings on this board. But I always felt that the purpose of this "English" board was unclear (whether it was for the English speakers to socialize, or for those who wanted to practice their English and thus to improve their skills), and I couldn't be sure whether the posters wanted theirs corrected or not. I don't want this board to become just a place where everyone's at each other's throat (like some other boards) for a language that is used by so many people from so many places that it's sometimes hard to say what is a correct usage. I hope this board to remain mostly a place where anyone can talk about anything without being too conscious about being perfect at English. Getting over one's inhibition from trying to be perfect and not to be criticised, is probably the most important step to learning anything, especially a foreign language. I also hope, however, for this board to be used as a learning ground as well. I think this board can be a good tool for this with already existing people. So, I would like to suggest we devise a way for the posters to indicate which ones they wish (or do not wish) to be corrected. One such idea is to prefix the subject line with "[RR]" (for "review requested"). Of course this won't mean that not every posting will be reviewed nor does it mean that someone will "write" your graduate application essays for you. :) Anyway, this is just my suggestion. Critiquing is a very delicate matter, I think. I just don't want this board to turn into an inhospitable place by some mis-communication. I welcome other suggestions. 홍. -- 2002-08-30 ------------------------- http://www.sori.org/hongcho/ -- Baseball is wrong.
