An officemate of mine, who is Jewish, speaks English very fluently, even though he came to America a few years ago. As I heard of his English, I said to my another officemate, who is an American, "I know that he came from a foreign country, but he speaks English very well. He seems like a Native American." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At this, the American guy was very surprised to say, "What did you say? What?..." I said, "He seems like a native American. His English is very good." Then he kindly explained to me with smile, "You meant he seems like a native speaker, right? Native Americans are the natives who had lived in America before Westerns found this continent.." It's my big mistake to call "a Jewishman" as "an American Indian." - Yellow |
