As late as last Friday, Russian President Boris Yeltsin vowed not to devalue the rouble. On Monday though, he declared moratorium along with devaluation of the rouble. It's been working like a domino since a break out of a number of asian currency devaluations late last year, and now the crisis seems to be headed toward south america. What's more, Japanese economy looks ill with all those bad loans and it seems to be just a matter of time for JPY to go through 150 against USD. Should that happen, it will be a tremendous pressure on Chinese government to devalue theirs, on top of a disastrous flood costing them billions of dollars already. Everyone is questioning the leadership of the japanese prime minister, calling him cold pizza, and Mr. Clinton seems to be joining him. Sure enough, Lewinsky gate has hurt him, but he himself has taken bad measures bombing Sudan and Afghanistan in an attempt to secure his position, leading to a question if the scandal has weakened his presidency to such a degree. Unfortunately, what I've listed so far is not the end of the story. Y2K problem will become more than just a concern by the end of next year, and considering how the overall industry is approaching this problem - wait and see if something goes wrong- it can be literally disastrous. Well, don't get me wrong though, I'm not a doom and gloomer. Just some concerns on the status of the world, IMHO. Your opinion on any of the above will be appreciated. Correction: It's supposed to be "millennium" in the title. ^^ Sorry for sloppiness. Couldn't edit the title part. |
