[ EnglishOnly ] in KIDS 글 쓴 이(By): maya (*4U*) 날 짜 (Date): 1996년09월09일(월) 17시32분28초 KDT 제 목(Title): Hectic!! When I came to the US to study, I suddenly turned into someone labeled "foreighn student." A foreign student, I discover, has problem. Whether from Korea, like me, or from some other countries, a foreign student has to work twice as hard as Americans do to succeed in college. First of all, there is the language problem. American students have the advantage(?) of comprehending English without working at it. But even they complain that some professors talk too fast, mumble, or using big words. As a result, they can't take notes fast enough to keep up, or they misunderstand what was said. Now consider my situation. I have tried to cope with a language that is probably one of the hardest in the world to learn. Doezens of English slang phrases - "mess around", "pulling around"..whatever - were totally new to me. Another problem I face has to do with being a stranger to American culture. For instance, the academic world is much different in Korea. In America, professors seem to treat students as equals. Many classe are informal, and the relationship between students and teachers are really friendly; in fact, students call some teachers by their first name. This more casual atmosphere occasionally drives me feel somewhat odd. I have been really hectic to adjust to all the circumstances whatever I have had in the US. That's why I have consummed a portion of my time in kids so that I can always keep my chin up!!! the coolest guy coming from Hwaii.. |
