I just want to mention one thing that has been bothering me. I'm in an interracial relationship--my girlfriend is caucasian--and this summer she came to Korea with me. Everytime we go out, we get a lot of attention. I understand that, since Korea is a huge homogenious society. But it gets really annoying when you discover every single place you go to you have to deal with these senseless people staring at you all the time. It gets worse with older generations.. once I heard an old man yelling at me in Korean: "How could you hold her hand?" I guess it was an extreme case.. but sometimes people get so rude and I feel ashamed of my own people! Like a couple of days ago, I was taking a walk with my girlfriend and we encountered a group of college students. They didn't stare at us like old people would do, and we felt relieved.. but not even before we got a couple of meters apart, I heard one of them saying, "Wow... did you see those, too?" "yeah, I did!" "Me too!" and they all cracked up. I knew immediately what they were talking about.... she is well endowed compared to other people, even in U.S.. She asked me what they were saying but I didn't have to tell her that because she could tell right away. After that incident she felt really uncomfortable taking a walk among strangers.. I ALSO FELT very uncomfortable! People.. please mind your own business! And learn to respect other people!! *:^) 귀엽지 않나요? http://www.lawrence.edu/~sonh/ |
