As you all may know, The Beatles are releasing a compilation documentary on British and American TV, sometime this week. In addition, there will also be a CD released that contains 4-5 previously unreleased tracks, several different versions of previously recorded songs, 1 "lost" song by George Harrison, that was found recently in an unmarked tape box in the tape depository at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, and finally, 2 demo tracks by John Lennon, recorded just hours before his death, that were given last year to the three surviving Beatles by John's widow, Yoko Ono. After receiving the demo cuts, the remaining Beatles along with former Beatle producer, George Martin, and former Beatle sound engineer, Geoff Emerick, gathered in the completely refurbished Abbey Road Studio #2 (EMI and the Beatles spent approxmatly $6 million to tranform Studio #2 to exactly the same condition that it was at the time the Beatles used to record there), where they seperated John's voice from the demo tracks, and re-recorded the songs with Paul, George, and Ringo playing guitars, bass, drums, etc... As a long time Beatles fan, I look forward to hearing the music that I love above all others. At the same time, I must try not to get too exited, because I don't want to be disappointed if the songs turn out to be not that great. Having said that, these are very exiting times for Beatle lovers, indeed. It has also been rumored that George Martin and Geoff Emerick rounded up some late 60's vintage tape recorders and microphones to conduct the latest "Beatles" recording. Thank God! Music lovers and musicians alike can learn a big lesson here: The best music is recorded on analog, not digital! It has a much warmer sound and can be "cheated" in the sense that the monitor levels can be overloaded, whereas digital one can not. It is my hope that the fab four can be "fab" once more and have a #1 song! All the best, The fool |
